Examination Process Overview:

  1. Initial Assessment:

    • Candidates must submit an initial assessment application to determine their eligibility to proceed with the examination process.
  2. Written Examination:

    • Purpose: Assesses knowledge of the science and practice of dentistry, as well as clinical judgment and reasoning skills relevant to dental practice in Australia.
    • Format: A computer-delivered, multiple-choice question examination held over two days.
    • Frequency: Conducted twice a year, typically in March and September.
    • Upcoming Dates:
      • Period 1:
        • Initial Assessment Deadline: 13 October 2024
        • Application Period: 9 – 16 December 2024
        • Examination Dates: 18 and 19 March 2025
      • Period 2:
        • Initial Assessment Deadline: 2 April 2025
        • Application Period: 3 – 10 June 2025
        • Examination Dates: 2 and 3 September 2025
    • Validity: A pass in the written examination is valid for three years.
    • Fee: $2,122 AUD

  3. Practical Examination:

    • Purpose: Assesses practical clinical skills through a two-day simulation-based examination.
    • Eligibility: Candidates must have successfully passed the written examination.

        • Date Selection Period: 28 – 30 October 2024
      • Period 2:
        • Application Period: 7 – 16 February 2025
        • Date Selection Period: 19 – 21 February 2025
    • Fee: $4,775 AUD

  • 2025 Examination Calendar Released: The ADC has published the 2025 examination calendar for various dental professions, including general dentistry, dental hygiene, dental therapy, and dental prosthetists. Candidates can view the calendar on the ADC's website. 

  • Application Periods for Practical Examinations: The ADC has announced the application periods for the 2025 Period 2 General Dentistry Practical Examination. The application process will be conducted in two stages, with specific dates outlined above.
