RadiologyMultiple radiolucencies are common in all of the following except osteopetrosis.

EndodonticsInternal resorption in a vital symptomatic tooth requires complete pulpectomy to remove all pulp tissue causing the resorption. Pulpotomy would leave infected pulp tissue that continues the resorptive process.
11366
EndodonticsIn a young patient with immature root development and vital pulp exposure, pulpotomy preserves radicular pulp vitality allowing continued root development (apexogenesis). Pulpectomy would halt root formation.

The average depth of corrosion for most amalgam alloys is 100 to 500 µm.

General PathologyThe TSC1 gene, which plays a role in Tuberous sclerosis, is located on chromosome 9.

Oral PathologyOsteosarcoma typically shows a sunburst pattern with radiopaque strands extending from the cortical plates. This characteristic appearance results from tumor bone formation perpendicular to the cortex, creating spiculated patterns. Other features include Codmans triangle (elevated periosteum) and mixed radiolucent-radiopaque appearance. Cotton wool appearance is seen in Pagets disease, soap-bubble in giant cell granuloma, and discrete radiolucency in benign lesions.

Microbiology
A classic example of delayed type IV hypersensitivity is the Mantoux tuberculin test in which skin induration indicates exposure to tuberculosis. This reaction is called "delayed hypersensitivity" because it is mediated by sensitized CD4+ T lymphocytes which process antigens in association with class II HLA molecules and release lymphokines. Hypersensitivity reactions with this mode of action include: Granulomatous diseases (mycobacteria, fungi) Tuberculin skin reactions Transplant rejection Contact dermatitis Cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) mediated responses: CD8+ T cells are generated and lyse specific cells. Class I HLA molecules play a role. Reactions with this mode include: Neoplastic cell lysis Transplant rejection Virus-infected cell lysis
The lymphokines promote a reaction (especially mediated through macrophages) beginning in hours but reaching a peak in 2 to 3 days.

Oral SurgeryIn multiple extractions, maxillary teeth are extracted before mandibular, and posterior teeth before anterior. This sequence prevents blood and debris from falling into lower extraction sites, and extracting posterior teeth first provides better access and reduces tissue trauma.

Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryAbsorbable sutures are particularly beneficial for pediatric patients who may struggle to return for suture removal. These sutures dissolve over time, eliminating the need for a follow-up visit to remove them
